Algerian folk music dating back to 1920’s. It developed from the city of oran which was primarily a poor population
or shepherds. It came from people living in Bedouin village. It is a mix of Spanish, French, African and Arab.
The songs usually highlight social and economic issues.
Often associated with the music of Algerian youth giving expression to cultural freedom.
Dominant Instruments -
Drums, Reed Flute and also western influence such as violins, accordions as well as electronic instruments
such as guitars and keyboards.
Dominant Scales -
Uses typical diatonic scales
Dominant rhythm -



Rhythm 4/4 and is Vivica (lively)
